Dana’a: Forced Displacement of Residents of Ghabat Kou is a Crime Against Humanity

The Minister of Information and Official Spokesperson for the Government of Peace and Unity, Khalid Dana’a, stated that the forced displacement of residents of “GhabatKou” in the Butana region of El-Gedaref state constitutes, in his words, “A crime against humanity and a full-fledged war crime,” calling for the condemnation of such actions and for those responsible to be held accountable through domestic as well as international legal mechanisms.
In a press statement, Dana’a added that the recent events taking place in Ghabat Kou “are far from an isolated incident,” moreover, he believed it’s part of a pattern of violations that targets civilians in various parts of Sudan during the war, including a number of areas in the Canabi region of El-Jazeera and Sennarstates.
Furthermore, the Minister accused the de facto authorities in Port Sudan, along with groups he described as “extremist,” of being responsible for practices based on racist and regionalist grounds, according to his statement.
He affirmed that the “Government of Peace” condemns what it described as “violations against civilians,” declaring its readiness to provide humanitarian aid to those affected, be it shelter, food, or medicine, without discrimination.
The Official Spokesperson for the Peace Government concluded his statement by sharing that the issue of forced displacement of residents from “Kou” area is being pursued by the judicial and legal authorities of the Government of Peace, noting that efforts are underway to document the facts and follow up on the related procedures.
