The Republican Party: Egypt’s alliance with the Sudanese MB disqualifies it from the Quad’s Mediation role

The Republican Party condemned Egypt’s role in fueling the war in Sudan through its direct support of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) in Sudan. The Party asserted that Egypt’s alliance with the Brotherhood, its violation of Sudanese Sovereignty by maintaining a military base on Sudanese soil to strike civilian targets, and its involvement in supporting the ongoing war disqualify it from its role as a mediator within the Quartet’s structure, that aims to achieve peace in Sudan.

In a statement issued Saturday, the Republican Party shared that the Egyptian regime’s declaration of its red lines and its claim to the right to invoke the so-called Joint Defense Agreement —which was abrogated by the elected Sudanese government in the 1980s— is further evidence of its military alliance with one party to the conflict, thus disqualifying it from its role as a neutral mediator within the Quartet.

Egypt’s Role in Fueling the Sudanese War

The Republican Party condemns in the strongest terms the Egyptian government’s incessant acts of fueling the conflict in Sudan and its intransigent obstruction of all efforts to end the war, which has been described as the worst humanitarian catastrophe of our time.

The revelations in the New York Times experts’ report, which was reported by the BBC Arabic, Reuters, and other credible media outlets, regarding the Egyptian Air Base used to launch strikes inside Sudan with high-tech Turkish-made Akinci drones, which have targeted civilians in densely populated areas, constitute a blatant violation of Sudanese Sovereignty and the safety of its citizens, furthermore, it disrupts Aid Convoys. The aforementioned serves to confirm the long-standing accusations of Egypt’s involvement in the Sudanese war.

The Egyptian regime’s declaration of its red lines and its claim to the right to invoke the so-called Joint Defense Agreement —which was abrogated by the elected Sudanese government in the 1980s— is further evidence of its military alliance with one party to the conflict, thus disqualifying it from its role as a neutral mediator within the Quartet

The Egyptian government’s pronouncements about supporting legitimacy, supposedly to help Sudan achieve stability and territorial integrity, are contradicted by its current stance of supporting the continuation of the war and backing the illegitimate coup government of Al-Burhan, in addition to its ongoing occupation of considerable parts of the Sudanese territory.

The Egyptian regime ought to understand that a democratic civilian government -the formation of which, it has consistently obstructed, is the choice of the Sudanese people, expressed through their free will, which, in turn, constituted the glorious revolution of December 2018, a revolution they sacrificed blood, sweat, and tears to carry out.

Furthermore, the Egyptian government ought to understand that by supporting the government of Al-Burhan, controlled by the Muslim Brotherhood Organization -that the Egyptian government went to great lengths to eradicate in its own country- will bear the brunt of responsibility for all the injustices, tragedies, violations, and even War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity inflicted upon the Sudanese people by the extremist and brutal Muslim Brotherhood militias affiliated with the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF).

It is high time for Egyptian regimes to change their approach towards Sudan, which has been prevalent since its independence. This approach has been characterized by making Sudan subservient to Egyptian will and a protector of Egyptian economic, security, and geopolitical interests within its borders. The aforementioned has been achieved through Egypt’s support for and alliance with military governments and authoritarian regimes throughout history, even at the cost of Sudan’s destruction, disintegration, and collapse.

In conclusion, the Sudanese people ought to be aware of their rights and vigilant in protecting them. They ought to be aware of the external and internal machinations aimed at preventing them from achieving these rights and enjoying the fruits of security, peace, freedom, and justice.

May the Almighty protect Sudan and its people, and ward off the plots of its enemies, both internal and external, for He is the All-Hearing, the One who answers prayers.
