The inflation rate rises to a new record high
The Central Bureau of Statistics announced today, Tuesday, that the annual rate of change in prices -inflation- in July 2024 rose to (193.94%), compared to (158.16%) recorded in June.
The Bureau stopped publishing inflation statistics after the outbreak of war on the 15th of April last year, but resumed working in July, revealing that the inflation rate in the first half of the current year reached (136.69%).
The Bureau shared in a statement that: “The general annual rate of change in prices in July rose by (193.94%) over its counterpart in the previous year.”
The prices of basic commodities in Sudan have doubled at a record rate, amid a famine that has struck many Sudanese regions and states, and the number of people suffering from hunger has risen to more than (25) million Sudanese as a result of the war.
