Widespread Armed Robberies in the Local Market South of Khartoum

Merchants and residents in the local market south of Khartoum complained of widespread armed robberies targeting citizens, merchants, and shops.

A merchant, who preferred to remain anonymous, told (Assayha) that said armed robberies are being carried out by military personnel. He added that the perpetrators carry Kalashnikov rifles and other heavy weapons, wear the Sudanese Armed Forces’ uniforms, and seize goods from merchants at gunpoint.

He further mentioned an incident that occurred in the past two days -in which military personnel stormed shops and looted their contents at gunpoint. He confirmed that the police apologized to the merchants for their inability to intervene at the time of the incident.
