Rising Bread Prices and Weight Inconsistencies in Khartoum 

Recently, residents of the Sudanese city of Khartoum reported that several bakeries have significantly reduced bread weights, noting that the price of three pieces of bread has reached (1,000 Sudanese pounds) -which amounts to approximately ($2), amidst a notable lack of price controls in the markets. 

Residents further explained that the bread offered by some bakeries is now noticeably smaller than before, despite the increased daily costs for families, sparking widespread discontent amongst consumers. 

Citizens emphasized that the aforementioned practices taking place can be attributed to a clear absence of health and price controls, allowing for a decline in quality that wasn’t confronted by any deterrent measures, which, naturally, served to exacerbate the -already- difficult living conditions in the capital. 

They pointed out that the decline in bread quality comes at a time when residents are struggling with soaring prices for basic commodities, making any change or Inconsistencies in bread weight an additional burden on families. 

Furthermore, these complaints reflect a growing sense of anxiety amongst citizens regarding the continued lack of oversight on bakeries, given the country’s challenging economic circumstances.
