Ethiopia SAF armed Mercenaries from the Tigray Region

Recently, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia has accused the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) of arming and funding “mercenaries” from the Tigray region, stating that Sudanese military entities provided financial as well as military support to these groups, according to the official Ethiopian News Agency (ENA).

According to a statement issued by the Ethiopian government, the activities of Tigrayan fighters inside Sudan are “documented and verified,” furthermore, the Ethiopian government has evidence indicating that the Sudanese territory has become a base from which forces hostile to Ethiopia operate.

Ethiopia strongly rejected the “baseless accusations” made during a press conference by the de facto authority in Port Sudan, and stressed its commitment to supporting the Sudanese people and preserving the historical relations between the two neighboring countries, warning against “external parties seeking to implement malicious agendas.”

For its part, the Ethiopian government reiterated its call for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan, emphasizing that there is “no military solution” to the ongoing civil war there.

Furthermore, it called on all parties to reach an immediate humanitarian truce, as a prelude to a permanent ceasefire, and in an effort to launch a comprehensive, independent as well as transparent civilian political dialogue aimed at restoring peace and civilian rule in Sudan.
