400 days since the SAF arrested Dr Tariq

The “Emergency Lawyers” human rights group announced that (400 days) have passed since the disappearance of Dr. Tariq Ahmed Ali, who was arrested by the Military Intelligence on (March 5th, 2025) on charges of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), after the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) assumed control of “ShargAlneel” or the area East of the Nile in Khartoum.
In a statement, the human rights group shared that Dr. Tariq used to manage a soup kitchen (charitable public kitchen or Takaya) in the area of Dar el-Salam al-Maghariba, Haj Youssef, a humanitarian initiative that had been operating since the April 15th war broke out and until the Sudanese Army managed to assume control over the area, with the aim of providing food aid to civilians amidst extremely difficult humanitarian conditions.
The “Emergency Lawyers” added that, regardless, and until this point in time, Dr.Tariq’s fate and whereabouts remain unknown, without him being brought before the prosecution or afforded any legal guarantees or fair judicial proceedings, in flagrant violation of the national constitution and International Human Rights Conventions.
Furthermore, the group called for urgent action to determine his fate, ensure his physical and psychological safety, and guarantee his full legal rights, including the right to a fair trial or his immediate and unconditional release, thus putting an end to this ongoing crime.
The statement went on to emphasize that the continued enforced disappearance of civilians and humanitarian workers poses a serious threat to the rule of law and perpetuates a disturbing pattern of grave violations, which, in turn, highlights the necessity of taking immediate steps to hold all parties responsible accountable and to put an end to this practice without further delay.
