The SLM presents Haavisto with initiative to end the war and address the root causes

The Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for Sudan, Pekka Haavisto, held talks in Nairobi, Kenya, with a delegation from the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) headed by Abdul Wahid Mohamed Al-Nur.
This meeting takes place as part of a series of discussions the UN Envoy has held with Sudanese parties in an effort to end the war and restore civilian life.
In a statement, the (SLM) shared that the meeting with the UN Envoy addressed humanitarian issues and how to respond to the growing needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in areas under its control, as well as security and political issues.
The statement added that “The delegation explained to the Envoy the role the (SLM) plays in protecting civilians, IDPs, and humanitarian workers, given the increasing number of displaced persons and the scarcity of basic necessities. The delegation further presented the Movement’s initiative to end the war in Sudan and address the root causes of the historical crisis.”
Furthermore, the Movement’s delegation extended an invitation to the UN Personal Envoy to visit the areas under its control in Darfur to witness the humanitarian situation firsthand.
The delegation included Abdul Wahid Mohamed Ahmed Al-Nur, the Movement’s leader; Abdul Latif Abdul Rahman Abbkar, a member of the Movement’s Supreme Leadership Council; Nimeiri Issa (Jara), the Humanitarian Affairs and Organizations Officer; as well as Mohamed Abdul Rahman Al-Nayer, the official spokesperson and head of the media sector.
On Tuesday, the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy met in Nairobi, Kenya, with Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, the Commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and President of the Presidential Council of the Sudan Founding Alliance Government, to discuss developments in Sudan and efforts to end the war and achieve peace.
