Protests in Atbara over power outages and soaring prices

 Hundreds of Sudanese citizens took to the streets in the northern city of (Atbara), protesting power outages and the soaring prices of basic commodities.

Recently, the electricity crisis has worsened notably, with outages extending up to 20 hours a day in some cities, towns, and regions -as well as service institutions such as hospitals, furthermore, the aforementioned conditions are taking place at a time of the year characterized by particularly high temperatures.

For their part, protesters complained about the power outages and the Port Sudan Authorities’ failure to provide essential services to citizens, including electricity, water, and flour. Moreover, they pointed out that commodity prices have doubled, with no regulatory oversight of commercial establishments.
