In Broad Daylight… Soldiers loot shops in Mayo, South of Khartoum

Recently, local sources reported that a notable number of armed robberies took place in the area of “Mayo,” south of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, specifically in shops located in the Sixth Market. According to (Saheeh Sudan), armed men in military uniforms, traveling via four-wheeled vehicles, stormed six shops at gunpoint in broad daylight.

Eyewitnesses shared that a state of panic and fear gripped the neighborhood, which, naturally, fostered valid concerns about a repeated performance and the rest of the market being looted as well.

The aforementioned incident took place mere days after local authorities imposed a security cordon around the area, preventing residents from leaving for work early and reinstating a nighttime curfew, whilst armed men continue to loot during the day.

Furthermore, shoplifting and break-ins have become rather frequent south of Khartoum, particularly in the Local and Central Markets, perpetrated by individuals wearing the Sudanese Armed Forces’ uniforms.
