Protesters Block the Northern Highway in Demonstration Against Power Outages

Early Sunday morning, protesters blocked the Northern Highway, which connects “Dongola” and “Wadi Halfa,” in the city of “Abri,” in protest against the ongoing power outages.
The protesters stated that they resorted to blocking the road after authorities ignored repeated demands from citizens to address the electricity crisis.
Furthermore, the protesters affirmed that the blockade would continue peacefully and respectfully until the demands of the region’s residents are met, emphasizing their commitment to their legitimate right to a stable and equitable electricity service.
In addition, the protesters called on all citizens of “el-Sukkot“ region to participate in the blockade and peaceful escalation, asserting that electricity is a fundamental right that ought not be relinquished.
They further warned against the use of violence against the protesters, demanding an immediate response to citizens’ demands, putting an end to the discriminatory electricity scheduling.
Recent reports shared that lage parts of the country are experiencing prolonged power outages.
