The electricity sector collapses as Merowe Dam turbines prove to be out of service

A reliable source within the Sudanese Electricity Distribution Company (SEDC) revealed that the ongoing practices of severe power rationing and prolonged outages are set to continue -due to fears of a nationwide collapse of transmission networks, for in addition, the turbines at Merowe Dam completely went out of service.
The source further stated that the Ministry of Energy is exploring alternative energy options to address the shortage, whilst the authority has been rendered unable to devise solutions to address the continuous malfunctions in the national grid.
In addition, the source shared that the reality of the situation is extremely difficult, hence, it necessitates tremendous efforts as well as a substantial budget, however, both are currently unattainable due to intransigent prioritization of spending on the war.
