The death of a tribal leader in Darfur months after his abduction

The Government of the Region of Darfur announced the death of “Shartai/tribal leader,” Adam Sabi al-Tijani, the head of Dar QalaNative Administration, who passed away in the area of Karnoi, Dar Zaghawa in North Darfur state.
Shartai Adam Sabi, the Governor of Dar Qalaregion, was abducted last August by an armed force believed to be affiliated with Darfur Movements, and taken to an unknown location. This followed accusations that he was collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
In a press statement, Dr. El-Hadi Idris Yahya, the Governor of the Darfur Region appointed by the Sudan Founding Government, mourned the late Shartai, sharing that he was a model of wisdom and sound judgment, a symbol of the Native Administration, for he dedicated his life to serving his people, striving to establish social peace, resolve conflicts, and promote the values of coexistence and social cohesion. Moreover, he was known for his sincerity, courage in speaking the truth, and tirelessly putting forth diligent efforts to achieve stability and security in his region.
Idris strongly condemned the killing of ShartaiAdam Sabi, holding the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Joint Force present in the area responsible for the tragedy that took place.
He emphasized that such crimes constitute a grave violation of the sanctity of life and a direct threat to peace and social cohesion.
Furthermore, El-Hadi Idris stressed the necessity of apprehending the perpetrators and bringing them to justice without delay, ensuring that all those found to be involved in such a callous act are held accountable, in an effort to achieve justice, uphold the rule of law, and to prevent the recurrence of such violations.
The Governor of the Region of Darfur appealed to citizens, the family of the deceased, and the Native Administration to exercise restraint, so as “not to grant those with malicious intent -who seek to incite strife and destabilize the region- the opportunity to achieve their goals,” affirming that the path of justice is the only way to obtain rights and preserve dignity.
