Today, Wednesday, the Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasis) revealed information regarding attempts by certain parties within the African Union (AU), primarily the Arab Republic of Egypt, to circumvent the decision to suspend Sudan’s membership in the African Union following the October 25th Coup against the transitional government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, the Alliance shared that reports had emerged -indicating that a representative of the terrorist group, Mohi El-Din Salem, is scheduled to address the African Union Peace and Security Council, in a meeting on the 12th of February 2026. Hence, (Tasis) believed that such a development constitutes a violation of the charters, principles, and resolutions of the African Union, specifically the resolution issued on October 27th, 2021, which suspended Sudan’s membership until the effective restoration of civilian-led transitional authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sudan Founding Alliance (TASIS)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Press Statement Regarding Attempts to Circumvent the African Union\u2019s Decision to Suspend Sudan\u2019s Membership<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Attempts by certain parties within the African Union, led by the Arab Republic of Egypt, to circumvent the decision suspending Sudan\u2019s membership in the African Union following the October 25, 2021 coup against the transitional government continue unabated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Reports have emerged indicating that the so-called Mohieldin Salem, a representative of the terrorist group, is scheduled to address a meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council tomorrow, Thursday, 12 February 2026. This step constitutes a violation of the values, principles, and decisions of the African Union\u2014specifically the decision issued on 27 October 2021 suspending Sudan\u2019s membership until the effective restoration of the civilian-led transitional authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During Egypt\u2019s presidency of the African Union Peace and Security Council in October 2024, a previous attempt was made to circumvent the suspension decision when a Council delegation visited Port Sudan and issued a statement calling for the opening of an African Union Liaison Office in Port Sudan.
