The President of the Presidential Council and Commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, announced today, Monday, an immediate humanitarian truce that includes a cessation of hostilities for three months, in an effort to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and the protection of civilians. He affirmed his commitment to facilitating humanitarian efforts and all measures aiming to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his address today, Daglo expressed his hope that the Quad countries would play their role in encouraging the other party to respond positively to this step, and to international efforts aimed at serving the interests of the Sudanese people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, the Chairman of the Presidential Council emphasized the need to secure the movement of humanitarian workers, ensure the unimpeded delivery of aid to all affected areas, protect the headquarters and warehouses of international organizations, facilitate the access of medical and relief teams, in addition to fully cooperating with the United Nations and relevant humanitarian organizations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daglo announced his agreement to the establishment of a field monitoring mechanism for the humanitarian truce, overseen by the Quartet countries, the African Union, and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), to guarantee its implementation and the safe delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He pledged to hold those responsible for the violations accountable, emphasizing his full commitment to prosecuting anyone found to be involved in carrying out violations against civilians, under any pretext or circumstance. He indicated that he had initiated clear and professional investigative procedures, explaining that the results of these investigations would be announced to the public with complete transparency as soon as they were completed. He affirmed that justice would take its course in accordance with national and international law, and that no perpetrator of violations would escape accountability, regardless of their position or rank. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President of the Peace Government’s Presidential Council reiterated his commitment to a comprehensive and just political process, stating that the humanitarian truce he agreed to represents the first step towards halting hostilities and reaching a comprehensive political solution to the root causes of the Sudanese crisis. Furthermore, he expressed hope to receive the support of the international community, and the active participation of the Sudanese people in achieving a comprehensive political process that would end the war as well as pave the path for a safe transition that guarantees the unity and stability of the country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe reaffirm our commitment to a political process, in which everyone participates, except for the terrorist Islamic Movement (the Muslim Brotherhood), the National Congress Party (NCP) and their affiliates, because they bear responsibility for all the tragedies our people have endured for three decades,\u201d according to the Chairman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daglo called on the international community to support the humanitarian truce, participate in the field monitoring mechanism for the humanitarian truce, sponsor confidence-building measures, support the political process, conduct a comprehensive dialogue, and provide urgent humanitarian assistance to those in need throughout Sudan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
