The Prime Minister of the Government of Peace and Unity, Mohamed Hassan El-Ta’aishi, stated that Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan “offered more to the Islamists than ousted President Omar Al-Bashir ever did.” He described the former as a “confused and characterless man,” emphasizing that he is the most suitable leader for them at this sensitive stage in Sudan’s history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In an interview broadcast on the “Sudan 360 Podcast,” El-Ta’aishi explained that Al-Burhan is “caught in the grip of a dual social and ideological alliance,” noting that he “benefited from the Islamists’ infiltration of the military establishment” and that he “became the general who served the Islamists most after the revolution.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, El-Ta’aishi indicated that the Islamists “ignited the April 15th war” out of fear that the Framework Agreement would lead to their loss of the two most important institutions\u2014the Army and Civil Service. He explained that the (October 25th, 2021) coup was ” carried out as a revenge against the revolution and Hemedti himself, in addition to being a death sentence for the democratic project.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to El-Ta’aishi, General Yasser Al-Atta represents “the most important person serving the social coalition within the Sudanese Army,” describing him as “not naive, but rather aware of the importance of the military institution in protecting the former 1956 State. He believes that the ongoing war is a battle for the survival of the old State and its institutions, even if it requires the use of internationally prohibited chemical weapons or forming an alliance with the devil.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Prime Minister of the Government of Peace and Unity accused the Islamists of preparing for “an upcoming confrontation with the international community.” He shared that they “will inevitably involve Al-Burhan in a clash with foreign powers.” Moreover, he went in to accuse them of sabotaging all peace initiatives, from the Jeddah Forum to the Manama Agreement, “with the aim of continuing the war trade and smuggling gold and resources.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, El-Ta’aishi criticized the performance of the democratic forces, noting that they “wasted the opportunity to ally with Hemedti during the transitional period.” Explaining that “had that particular development took place at the time, the confrontation with the Islamists would have been fundamentally different.” He added that Hemedti “later retreated after realizing the Islamists’ trap and led the efforts to bring Hamdok back and implement the Framework Agreement.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
