Jordanian authorities announced on Wednesday a ban on all activities of the dissolved Muslim Brotherhood, considering any movement or promotion of its ideas a violation of the law and subject to accountability. The decision included the confiscation of the group’s assets and the closure of its headquarters across the Kingdom, even those shared with other parties.<\/p>\n
This development came a day after Hamas demanded the release of defendants in the “Chaos Plot” case, in which (16) individuals were implicated in attempts to undermine national security, locally manufacture weapons and explosives, and illegally import others.<\/p>\n
The Jordanian government explained that the group attempted to destroy sensitive documents in order to conceal its activities after the case was announced. The government shared information regarding uncovering explosives manufacturing and testing operations that were carried out by members of the Muslim Brotherhood group, as the latter were planning to target sensitive security sites.<\/p>\n
For his part, the Interior Minister emphasized that these measures were intended to protect the security of society, and that the dissolved group exploited the political environment to operate in secret, threatening national unity and disrupting security as well as public order.<\/p>\n
In addition, the Jordanian government affirmed its commitment to the freedom to form political parties and engage in political activity in accordance with the law, however, it will not tolerate any organization exploiting this freedom in an effort to destabilize the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
