An expatriate citizen was stabbed at Suakin Port after a fight ensued with a group of port workers, who tried to seize his property when he refused to pay them (2,000) Saudi riyals for lifting his bag.<\/p>\n
The incident reflects the growing tensions in the area, as workers seek to impose illegal fees for their services, which -in turn, rightfully- angers expatriates.<\/p>\n
According to eyewitness accounts, the workers forcibly took the expatriate\u2019s bag, which prompted a violent fight to ensue between them. In the midst of the chaos, one of the workers stabbed the expatriate, causing a state of panic amongst those present at the scene, including Police Officers who witnessed the incident. This behavior -in a way- reflects the increasing level of violence that expatriates face at the Port.<\/p>\n
Suakin Port is deteriorating further into a state of growing chaos, as expatriates arriving from abroad are often subjected to repeated looting and extortion by a number of workers.<\/p>\n
The aforementioned workers charge exorbitant fees for baggage handling and unloading services, in the absence of effective security controls.
