The Vice President of the Sudanese Congress Party (SCP), Khaled Omar Youssef, expressed bewilderment in regards to the position of Ramtane Lamamra, the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy for Sudan, who adopted a position of support of the Constitutional Document amended -solely- by the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan. Khaled Omar believed Lamamra’s position promotes the vision of one of the conflicting parties in the country.<\/p>\n
Hence, the Vice President of the (SCP) pointed out that the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Army made amendments to the Constitutional Document aiming to reinforce the military dictatorship, which raises concerns about the future of democracy in Sudan.<\/p>\n
According to Khaled Omar’s statements, Lamamra holds a point of view that completely contradicts the positions adopted by the United Nations (UN) and African Union (AU), as the former was among the first parties to condemn the October 25th coup, while the African Union considered the coup an unconstitutional change, which led to the suspension of Sudan’s membership in the organization.<\/p>\n
He stressed that an effective mediator ought to be able to build bridges of communication between all parties, rather than promote a specific faction, especially since this faction is part of the forces currently responsible for shedding the blood of Sudanese citizens.<\/p>\n
He pointed out that such practices may lead to the aggravation of the humanitarian and political conditions in the country, which necessitates the existence of neutral mediation that seeks to achieve peace and stability.<\/p>\n
