Activists on social media circulated new videos documenting the continued violations committed by the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and its allied groups against civilians in Al-Jazeera state, on the pretext of their cooperation with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

One of the videos showed soldiers beating a resident of (Canabi), an agricultural worker, and accusing him of cooperating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In another clip, soldiers can be seen forcing a number of civilians into a military vehicle, while calling them “RSF collaborators”.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The circulated video clips blatantly showcase scenes of celebration and mockery by the soldiers that accompany the acts of assault or arrest of unarmed civilians.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Reports of horrific human rights violations against civilians in Al-Jazeera state spread after the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) entered the region that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) had controlled for nearly two years.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Al-Jazeera state has recently witnessed a notable escalation in violations carried out by the Army following the withdrawal of the Rapid Support Forces to its outskirts and the significant increase in tensions between the warring parties.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Canabi residents -agricultural workers from impoverished communities- are often discriminated against and marginalized, as they have become targets of <\/span><\/span>attacks by parties to the conflict on the pretext of their cooperation with one side or the other.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

These violations -naturally- raise growing concerns that the conflict continues to be exploited to settle political and social scores at the expense of civilians.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Human rights organizations and peace advocates are calling for independent investigations and accountability for those responsible for carrying out these violations, in addition to providing protection -rather urgently- for civilians affected by the ongoing conflict.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
