Uttering provocative series of statements in a video clip filmed in T\u00fcrkiye, Abdul-Hayy Youssef, a leader in the Sudanese Islamic Movement, attacked the Army Commander-in-chief, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan. Youssef stressed that Al-Burhan is incapable of eliminating the Islamists, in addition to calling him an \u201cunrespectable and irreligious figure.\u201d<\/p>\n
Youssef pointed out that the Islamic Movement has no faith in Al-Burhan, accusing him of bearing the lion\u2019s share of responsibility for the ongoing crisis in Sudan.<\/p>\n
Throughout the video, Youssef accused Al-Burhan of contradicting himself, failing to adhere to his own commitments, and referenced the incident of Al-Burhan\u2019s refusal to receive the Qatari Foreign Minister in accordance with the directives of the Rapid Support Forces’ Commander despite his prior approval; as an example.<\/p>\n
Abdul-Hayy Youssef added that Al-Burhan has lost the international support, citing T\u00fcrkiye\u2019s refusal to interact with him. He criticized as well the results of his recent visit to the United States, stressing that the meetings he held with American officials didn’t amount to any official announcement.<\/p>\n
The Islamist leader pointed out that Egypt, the United States, as well as the Gulf States support the Army, but they reject the Islamists’ return to power, stressing that Al-Burhan is incapable of eliminating the Islamists because they are -already- present inside his office.<\/p>\n
Abdul-Hayy Youssef’s statements come at a time when Sudan has been witnessing a bloody conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023.<\/p>\n
Despite Al-Burhan\u2019s reiterating his commitment to confronting the “former regime” and the Islamist Movement that controlled the government until 2019, many observers believe that internal tensions within the Army and its relationship with Islamist Movement further complicate the scene.<\/p>\n
