The Coordination-body of the Democratic and Civil Forces \u201cTagadom\u201d condemned Russia’s use of the veto, voting against a draft resolution submitted by Britain and Sierra Leone in the UN Security Council, which included texts calling for an end to the war in Sudan.<\/p>\n
Tagadom shared in a statement that the Russian position constitutes a cover for the continuation of massacres in Sudan, hinders efforts to address the largest humanitarian tragedy in the world, and abandons the Sudanese people to their suffering under the looming specter of famine, disease and poverty.<\/p>\n
The Coordination-body added that Russia used its right of veto to drop a draft resolution that was approved by the three representatives of the African continent in the Security Council, which belies its claim of bias towards the issues of the southern countries and their nations.<\/p>\n
Tagadom praised the efforts made by Britain and Sierra Leone in drafting the draft resolution, and expressed gratitude to all fourteen member States that voted in favor of the draft resolution, calling on them to continue their efforts to contribute to stopping the war, protecting civilians and delivering humanitarian aid in Sudan.<\/p>\n
The statement went on to add that; We in \u201cTagadom\u201d are assured by the high-level attention and global consensus that surrounded the Security Council session -from which only one country deviated- represents a glimmer of hope for the Sudanese people that the world has begun to sense the magnitude of the disaster our country is going through. Conveying that the world is ready to assist in achieving peace in Sudan. We would like to reiterate our determination to continue the tireless efforts to alleviate the suffering of our people by all means, and we will continue putting forth efforts domestically and internationally to end the war and address its effects in a comprehensive and fair manner.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
