The US Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, accused the Humanitarian Aid Commission of detaining (520) humanitarian aid trucks in Port Sudan and preventing them from leaving for their various destinations across the country.<\/p>\n
This is the third time in less than a month that the US Special Envoy has accused the government in Port Sudan -under the Army\u2019s Command- of obstructing the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected, without an official comment from the de facto government in Port Sudan on the accusations.<\/p>\n
Perriello shared in a post on the \u201cX\u201d platform that humanitarian workers in Sudan are deeply concerned about the continued prevention of the delivery of emergency relief to all parts of Sudan by the Sudanese Armed Forces\u2019 Humanitarian Aid Commission.<\/p>\n
He added that \u201cBetween August and October, the Humanitarian Aid Commission prevented (520) out of (550) humanitarian aid trucks from leaving Port Sudan to deliver life-saving supplies to states across Sudan.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a result, (6.4) million people in central and southern Sudan have yet to receive food, medicine, and other emergency supplies\u201d according to Perriello’s statements.<\/p>\n
The US Envoy urged Sudan\u2019s Transitional Sovereignty Council to direct the Humanitarian Aid Commission to allow the delivery of humanitarian aid from Port Sudan to the affected across Sudan.<\/p>\n
A week ago, Perriello stated that Sudan\u2019s Humanitarian Aid Commission had only allowed (10%) of the humanitarian supplies in Port Sudan to reach people in dire need of food and medicine.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe authorities in Port Sudan have blocked or delayed (90%) of emergency relief supplies, and those who are suffering in Kadugli or Khartoum, or in Nyala or the north, we need to find common ground on how to streamline the flow of emergency food and medicine to every corner of Sudan as quickly as possible,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
He noted that (6.5) million people in Sudan urgently need food to survive, and (25) million people need emergency humanitarian assistance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
