The US Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello, stated that many of the Sudanese people support the “Geneva” talks and the cessation of fighting, adding that there are political parties -he described as \u201cnegative\u201d- that seek power and work to obstruct peace efforts and prolong the war, in reference to what is known as \u201cremnants of the defunct regime and warlords\u201d who benefit from these conditions.<\/p>\n

The US Special Envoy confirmed that they recently managed to open two corridors to deliver food and medical aid to the Sudanese people, as the path extends from Port Sudan to the west, passing through Sennar state in the Southeastern part of the country.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Al Jazeera, US Special Envoy for Sudan, Tom Perriello indicated that although (20) million people suffer from food and medicine shortages in addition to facing famine, they have achieved accomplishments.<\/p>\n

He indicated that stopping the actions he described as \u201chostile\u201d is one of the significant achievements for the benefit of the Sudanese people, stressing the urgent need to deliver humanitarian aid and stop the \u201cviolence\u201d in the country.<\/p>\n

Tom Perriello explained that they were able to change the course of diplomacy and reduce the suffering of the Sudanese people, accusing the so-called “remnants of the former regime” of not wanting Sudan to achieve any progress. However, Perriello stressed that they are continuing their efforts with “partners” to stop the war and silence the weapons.<\/p>\n

The US Special Envoy indicated that they are working on an agreement that guarantees the protection of lives in Sudan, and added that they have yet to achieve this during the negotiations.<\/p>\n

Perriello stressed that Sudan is a priority for the Administration of US President Joe Biden and his Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and that they are cooperating with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through the “Jeddah” platform, as well as Egypt to enhance mediation efforts and stop the war.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
