The Ministry of Health confirmed the death of (12) people as a result of torrents and heavy rains in the Eastern states of Sudan during the past two days, especially in the state of Kassala.<\/p>\n

The camps for the displaced persons (IDPs) were built without taking into consideration the climatic conditions such as rain and wind, hence, most of them are located in low-lying areas that became a point for the accumulation of flood waters.<\/p>\n

On Friday, heavy rains swept through the tents of the IDPs residing in the industrial camps in the city of Kassala, eastern Sudan, which served to renew their suffering.<\/p>\n

Social media sites organized campaigns and appeals on the pages of activists and volunteer associations calling for assistance to the IDPs in shelters and warning of the rapid spread of mosquitoes, flies, disease vectors and reptiles.<\/p>\n

In the shelters, the condition of bathrooms and toilets violates health and environmental conditions, which requires immediate addressing after sewage waste floated in order to prevent the spread of diseases.<\/p>\n

Activists on social media called for declaring the state of Kassala an Emergency Zone. Similarly, popular organizations called for the suspension of the procedures for transporting and deporting the displaced persons in favor of providing suitable accommodation that can withstand floods and torrents. However, in case alternative accommodations weren’t made readily available, they urged authorities to suspend studies, maintain the shelters, and open schools for the displaced persons.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
