The Ethiopian government shared in a statement, \u201cWe have received information indicating the presence of forces from the former rebel
\nTigray People’s Liberation Front “TPLF\u201d fighting alongside the Sudanese Army Forces.\u201d<\/p>\n
The statement explained that the vast majority of the remaining forces present in refugee camps in Sudan and have yet to enter Ethiopia, following the signing of the Pretoria Peace Agreement “cessation of hostilities,” in November last year, are a group called “Samri” Forces and are accused of committing the “Mai Kadra” massacre, which is considered the largest massacre and ethnic cleansing of innocent civilians carried out during the Ethiopian war on November 9th \u2013 10th, 2020 in the town of “Mai Kadra” in “Welkait,” northwestern Ethiopia, near the Sudanese border.<\/p>\n
The statement confirmed that the group did not enter Ethiopia after signing the peace agreement for fear of punishment or arrest, in addition to their fear of the people if they recognized them.<\/p>\n
The government of Ethiopia strongly condemned the involvement of Ethiopian citizens in the Sudanese war siding with any of the warring parties.<\/p>\n
The statement stressed that any participation by any Ethiopian citizen does not represent the Ethiopian government and people, and that Ethiopia\u2019s position has remained consistent regarding the Sudanese war, for Ethiopia has always been in support of peace and putting an end to the ongoing war and destruction in Sudan, as well as being in favor of the Sudanese people and the country’s stability.<\/p>\n
Ethiopia held the United Nations responsible for the participation of the “Tigray” in the war alongside the Sudanese army, as they are residing in refugee camps, and that particular responsibility falls on the United Nations Commissariat for Refugees.<\/p>\n
