The World Health Organization warned that Sudan’s hospitals are on the verge of collapse, and the Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Hanan Hassan Balkhi, spoke of a “medicines shortage” in the country at a time when epidemic diseases are running rampant, spreading among the population.<\/p>\n
Balkhi\u2019s statements, according to Asharq Al-Awsat, also revealed that \u201cAbout 70% to 80% of hospitals in the states affected by the war are not working, either due to the prolonged attacks, the lack of medical and operating supplies, or the lack of health workers.\u201d Noting that \u201cHospitals are crowded with sick and injured people with a continuing influx of people seeking care, many of whom are internally displaced, while numerous hospitals remain inaccessible.\u201d She also attributed part of the crisis in hospitals to \u201cthe lack of security,\u201d in addition to the fact that \u201cthe health system in Sudan was already exhausted before the war, and is now on the verge of collapse.\u201d<\/p>\n
The organization’s regional director called on the international community to accelerate the arrival of humanitarian aid and end the ongoing hostilities in some states of Sudan, stressing that the fulfillment of what was approved by the recent Paris conference, and disclosing financing plans, if the relevant international pledges are adhered to.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
