The Army Intelligence, affiliated with the 17th Infantry Division, launched an arrest campaign targeting activists and journalists in the city of Singa, Sennar State.
\nThroughout this month, Army Intelligence intensified their arrest campaigns to include leaders from the Umma Party and Resistance Committees in the city of Singa.<\/p>\n
The city of Abu Hajjar’s Resistance Committees revealed in a statement, that thirty masked military intelligence soldiers riding five four-wheel drive vehicles, at 11 p.m. on Monday, raided the home of activist Mohammed Adam Adroub, a member of the Abu Hajjar Resistance Committees. Naturally, this caused great terror to his family, for it disregarded the sanctity of women and children.<\/p>\n
The Abu Hajjar Resistance Committees explained that when the military force did not find the activist “Adroub”, they arrested his brothers, the lawyer Makkawi Mohammed Adam, an Maghdad Mohammed Adam “student”, taking them as hostages to an unknown location. They added that the military force demanded the father to hand over his son within less than 24 hours period, otherwise, the rest of his family will be arrested.<\/p>\n
The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate confirmed that the home of journalist Ali Tariq Al-Arsh, in the city of Singa, was raided on Sunday by an intelligence force, and members of his family were arrested subsequently.<\/p>\n
The Sudanese Journalists Syndicate revealed that this was not the first time Ali Tariq’s home was raided, even though he is not in Sudan.<\/p>\n
The Syndicate stated that the family’s home was subjected to continuous raids late at night, during which the house was searched and its occupants were thoroughly intimidated.
\nThe Syndicate expressed deep regret for this blatant act of violation of human rights.
\nThe Syndicate shared that it intends to follow this case closely, blatantly announcing they will not hesitate in taking legal measures to protect the rights of journalists.<\/p>\n
The spokeswoman for the Sudanese Journalists Syndicate, Iman Fadl Al-Sayed, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj that the continuation of the Sudanese war will serve to increase the enormity of violations on a daily basis, which in turn will exacerbate the suffering of the press and journalists.<\/p>\n
Iman Fadl Al-Sayed added that the incident of journalist Ali Tariq is setting a dangerous precedent amidst the record of violations committed against journalists.<\/p>\n
She considered the arrest of the journalist’s family to fall within the boundaries of placing psychological pressure on the journalist, so as to hinder any professional journalistic materials.<\/p>\n
