Electricity bills increase by 72% amidst widespread power outages in Sudan

In an unannounced development, the Port Sudan Authorities raised the electricity bills by (72%), sparking widespread public outrage over the unjustified increase.
Citizens described the electricity bill hike as a full-fledged economic crime, accusing the administration of operating like thieves and the Port Sudan authorities of unethical practices in addition to selling false hope at a time when the country is experiencing its worst crisis.
They pointed out the irony of the exorbitant bill increase occurring whilst electricity is completely cut off, leaving large areas of Sudan in endless darkness.
Following the restoration of power to some areas, residents of Khartoum complained of exasperated bills on their electricity meters amounting to hundreds of thousands of Sudanese pounds, which accumulated over the past three years.
