Where will these people take us ?!

At this moment in time, the pressing question isn’t represented by the words of our late writer, Tayeb Salih: “Where did these people come from?” rather, the question of this stage is best expressed by enquiring: “Where will these people take us?”

These Islamists have placed our country today on the brink of fragmentation, disintegration, dissolution, and meltdown. They have pushed Sudan, with cunning and malicious tactics, to the brink of a devastating collapse.

In any case, I imagine that we are currently living through the consequences of a very bitter experience, summarized in its early days by Sheikh Osama bin Laden, who stated at the time:

“What is happening in Sudan is a mixture of religion and organized crime.”

Indeed, it’s the magic formula of the Sudanese Islamic Movement, whose shadows and effects extend to encompass all aspects of our lives to this day.

Furthermore, the magic this group possesses may even surpass that of the angels (Harut and Marut), who were said to be able to separate a man from his wife.

The Islamic Movement has immersed the country in the quagmire of endless wars, each of which only serves to provoke another. These wars have been cloaked in various forms and pretexts.

From a jihadist religious war in South Sudan, which ultimately led to its secession, to a war this time that they seek to wage with a racist, regionalist character, justifying their goal of separating the Darfur region as well.

In any case, the Muslim Brotherhood’s game is based on the principle of creating a particular threat, to spread and intensify fears amongst the people about the existence of this fabricated or artificial threat.

People are bound to feel, at some point, that their religion is in danger, or that their interests are in danger, or that their very existence is also in danger.

This threat, the more they ring its bells and exacerbate it to the highest levels, the more the people of Sudan adopt a state of living in constant fear and apprehension of one another.

The method of creating, cultivating, and spreading fear of the religious, ethnic, or regional other is the Islamic Movement’s tried and tested method.

The “Divide and Conquer” approach is one that this Movement fully acknowledges it wouldn’t have been able to remain in power for more than three decades without utilizing.

Therefore, currently, this Movement is resorting to identity-based killings in the most horrific ways imaginable, adopting and implementing what is known as the “Law of Strange Faces,” and pursuing discriminatory policies that deprive some residents of their basic rights; such as the right to be provided with equal opportunities in terms of education, the right to travel and reside in any part of the country. This Movement goes as far as to punish some by denying them identification papers and documents, as well as the currencies that facilitate normal financial transactions.

All of the aforementioned transgressions are implemented in a manner that aims to deepen societal rifts, preparing everyone to accept the idea of dividing the country and tearing it apart, no matter how small those parts are, they only ought to be sufficient to allow this group to continue to rule said part.

In fact, whenever a rebel revolted against this authoritarian group, they demonized him and sought to obliterate the identity and features of his revolution, before questioning its legitimacy or refusing to recognize it as a revolution that aims to establish a new legitimacy that would -consequently- strip them of their power. Or at the very least, they’re quick to question its effectiveness and the worthiness of its leaders to achieve the desired change.

In addition, whenever a revolutionist rebelled against their authority, threatening their entire throne, they proceeded to amputate and separate said rebel’s areas of control from the rest of the State, in order to ensure -at the very least- that this throne wouldn’t be completely destroyed.

And so on. This has remained the course favored by the Islamic Movement.
