31 Organizations issue serious report on widespread killings of civilians in Khartoum

In a joint statement, (31) Human Rights Organizations expressed their support for the statement issued by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, on the alarming human rights violations committed in Sudan.

This statement came in the wake of the bloody events that took place in Khartoum on (March 21st), which resulted in the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) regaining control of the city, that particular development was followed by numerous cases of extrajudicial killing of many civilians.

The statement included warnings from Türk regarding reports of summary executions in several areas of Khartoum, reflecting a critical situation that threatens the lives of civilians and exacerbates their suffering in a climate of war and insecurity. The Commissioner emphasized the need for the international community to take urgent action to protect human rights and achieve justice for the innocent victims.

The aforementioned human rights organizations, signed a joint statement in an effort to highlight the importance of providing support and assistance to civilians affected by the ongoing conflict in Sudan and emphasize the need to investigate these violations and hold those responsible accountable.

Moreover, the organizations highlighted the role of the international community in pressuring the Port Sudan Authority to end these violations and adhere to international human rights standards.

In their joint statement, the human rights organizations condemned the apparent international inaction in the face of such horrific violations and called for urgent action by international bodies to ensure the protection of civilians and hold accountable those involved in human rights violations.

In reality, this statement can be considered an important step in the path of addressing the humanitarian crises in Sudan and raising international awareness of the need to protect innocent lives and civilian communities.

Unfortunately, the humanitarian situation in Sudan continues to deteriorate, and this issue ought to be further highlighted.

The support conveyed by human rights organizations for Volker Türk’s statement represents a genuine call to action for the international community to take effective steps to protect human rights at a time when civilians need support and assistance.
