Kenya Peace initiatives of the Sudanese people

reinforce our history as peace advocates in Africa

The Kenyan government considered the signing of the peace agreement along with the process of forming the Unity Government by Sudanese political parties, civil society and Armed Movements in the peace talks held in Nairobi as a pivotal step towards restoring peace in Sudan.

The government of Kenya emphasized that the peace talks in Nairobi are only part of Kenya’s DNA to address issues in the region and on the continent since its independence.

During the leadership of the nation’s founding father, the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, to the second president, the late Mzee Daniel Toroitich arap Moi, the late Mzee Mwai Kibaki, President Uhuru Kenyatta and until now, during His Excellency, President William Ruto’s rein, it made was rather clear that Kenya, which has been an oasis of peace, has never been shy in lending a helping hand to its warring neighbours in the region, the continent of Africa and across the world.

“Presidents have placed the country’s foreign policy on mediation and peacemaking efforts at the forefront of their priorities, and have used their presidency to position themselves as advocates of the Pan-African agenda for peace and security,” according to the Kenyan government, and going as far as to stress that Kenya under President Ruto’s leadership remains steadfast in supporting peace in countries experiencing turmoil, including the ongoing and troubling conflicts in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Kenya’s foreign policy, adopted for the year (2024) was unveiled in last December and the foreign policy paper presented to Parliament cemented the idea of peace in Kenya’s reputation as a leader in the field of peace and security as it constitutes one of its eight pillars in addition to being a key focus, with the country actively engaged in peacebuilding efforts and mediation of regional conflicts, indicating that the Sudanese peace process consolidates Kenya’s history as a pioneer of peace in Africa.
