Police reject Al Burhan’s decision to issue passports to individuals on banned lists

The Sudanese Police Force rejected the decision of the Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF), Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan to issue passports for all Sudanese.

The Director of the Passports and Immigration Department, Osman Mohammed Al-Hassan Dinkawi, stated that lifting the ban on issuing passports for people on the lists requires a legal amendment.

In a statement (on Saturday), Al-Burhan had directed the Passports and Immigration Department at the Ministry of Interior not to deprive people on the ban lists from the opportunity to obtain their passports and identification documents.

Activists considered Al-Burhan’s directive and the Police Force’s refusal to comply, to be a well-rehearsed play that aims to create political propaganda, as the decision was issued, then a meeting with the Director General of the Police Force was publicized, only for the latter to refuse to comply under the pretext of the legal amendment, stressing that the Port Sudan Authority is consistently violating the basic rights of Sudanese people on racist grounds.
