SPLM-N repels SAF attack on Abu Saiba in the Nuba Mountains

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), led by Abdelaziz Al-Hilu, stated that the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) attacked the (Abu Saiba) area, located southwest of (Dilling) in the Nuba Mountains region, South Kordofan, at nine in the morning the day before yesterday (Dec. 24th), adding that the attack resulted in the killing of two of the attacking forces and the wounding of others.

The Movement explained in a statement today that the Sudanese Army launched several attacks utilizing the “Air Force” on some areas in the New Funj region in addition to the headquarters of the World Food Programme (WFP) in the region, where the attack claimed the lives of a number of civilians and wounded others, among whom is the director of the World Food Programme, an employee, and another individual.

The Movement considered that these steps reveal the true intention and desire of the Sudanese Armed Forces to launch a large-scale attack in the two regions at a time when the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – North is engaged in providing humanitarian aid to Sudanese people.

The first deputy chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) Joseph Tuka, stated that the airstrike on the town of (Yabus) is nothing more than a desperate attempt by the Islamists in Port Sudan to impose their agenda on the Sudanese people utilizing the military.

He continued: “However, they failed to achieve that throughout their rule of the Sudanese State because the Sudanese people were able to resist and defeat their racist, exclusionary project.”

Joseph Tuka questioned why the Air Force targeted the offices of international humanitarian organizations and defenseless citizens even though they aren’t part of the ongoing war ? He indicated that the SPLM-N succeeded in hosting and sheltering thousands of displaced persons fleeing the April 15th, 2023 war, as they voluntarily chose the areas under the control of the SPLM-N as a safe haven for them.

In a statement published on the Movement’s website, Tuka called on the United Nations and the international community to effectively play their role in providing protection to citizens. In addition to appealing to international humanitarian organizations to continue putting forth diligent efforts in delivering humanitarian aid to the citizens in New Funj, an effort that could very well save their lives from the dangers of the humanitarian crisis that plagued the region.
