UN shock following an airstrike on Kabkabiya Market
The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, expressed his unmitigated shock at the recent airstrike on a crowded market in North Darfur, western Sudan, which claimed the lives of at least (80) people and hundreds were injured as well.
The Director-General of the World Health Organization stated on his “X” account that “The most recent attacks in (Kabkabiya), North Darfur, that claimed at least (80) lives and injured hundreds of people are shocking. Our sympathies go out to the affected communities in Sudan.”
Early this week, the Sudanese “Emergency Lawyers” rights group, which includes pro-democracy lawyers, reported that more than (100) people were killed in an Army bombing of this market in North Darfur, western Sudan.
The deadly strike, which the Sudanese Army denies carrying out, targeted about (180) kilometers west of El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state – a town that has been besieged by the Rapid Support Forces since May.
“Health facilities in Darfur are barely managing to meet health needs with non-functional equipment and limitation of medical supplies.,” Ghebreyesus added, noting that (WHO) was able to deliver trauma and surgery supplies earlier this month.
