Sudanese artist Osama Genghis arrested and imprisoned in Cairo

Press reports indicated that comedian Osama Genghis has been detained in a prison in Cairo for more than a month due to visa violations.

This information was disclosed by reliable sources in the Egyptian capital, shedding light on the artist’s legal status.

In a related context, Genghis’ friends launched a campaign to demand his immediate release, as they contacted the Sudanese Embassy in Cairo, urging it to intervene on his behalf and put forth efforts to deport Genghis to his country. Such efforts reflected the great solidarity of his friends and the Sudanese artistic community.

It is worth noting that many Sudanese, including well-known figures, have moved to Egypt illegally without obtaining visas, following the outbreak of conflict in their country. The Egyptian government had previously announced a grace period to settle the status of these people, but recently began taking strict measures against violators, including arrest and deportation.
