Khartoum battles shrouded in secrecy

Information regarding the battles in Khartoum during the past two days indicates heavy losses for Al-Baraa Ibn Malik Brigade, and that the Army supporters’ claims of achieving progress on the ground are merely the same narrative they have repeatedly insisted on despite the significant losses they suffered since the war broke out in April of last year.

Khartoum has been witnessing fierce battles between the two sides since the end of last September, where the Army launched a military operation to regain control of sites in the cities of Khartoum, Sennar, Al-Jazeera and Darfur, but it has yet to achieved any significant progress in the recent battles as the Rapid Support Forces still control about (75%) of the country.

Violent confrontations took place between Army Forces and the Islamic Movement battalions in Al-Muqrin area in central Khartoum, which according to reliable sources led to heavy losses estimated at more than (143) dead from Al-Baraa Bridge, while the Rapid Support Forces inflicted heavy losses on the attackers in Al-Muqrin and seized weapons and ammunition.

Accounts close to Al-Baraa Brigade as well as Islamic figures on social media published information regarding large numbers of “martyrs,” confirming the ferocity of the battles that took place in the region.

Information indicates that the battles are taking place in great secrecy after the Rapid Support Forces prevented its members from taking pictures, for they used to publish their movements and the results of the battles periodically.
