Simple Tips to Get Rid of Mosquito Bites
A website affiliated with the “University of Alabama” in the United States of America shared that mosquitoes top the list of “What’s annoying about Summer,” coming right after “humidity” and “daily heat index of 37 degrees,” but unlike the Sun and humidity, you can keep mosquitoes at bay with a little preparation.
The website explained that it’s about more than just preventing those annoying insects that cause humans to itch, because the problem is that mosquitoes carry all kinds of diseases.
It indicated that in “Alabama”, humans can contract the “Eastern equine encephalitis” virus and the “West Nile” virus from mosquitoes.
According to the website, the “West Nile” virus is the leading cause of mosquito-borne diseases in the United States, but both viruses can cause severe illness or death.
For this reason, the website believes that the best defense is a good offense, and provided various general tips to keep the “little bloodsuckers away.”
The website recommended using insect repellent containing “DEET”, in addition to wearing long sleeves, long pants, and loose, light-colored clothing when possible.
The site also indicated the need to avoid keeping doors and windows open, using air conditioning, or ensuring that windows and doors have mosquito-proof screens.
The site went on to explain the need to dispose of any stagnant water, because female mosquitoes use it to lay their eggs, therefore, any objects containing stagnant water should be emptied, cleaned, turned over, covered, or disposed of.
Outside of the United States, mosquitoes carry various diseases, including Dengue, Zika, Chikungunya, and malaria. The transmission of these diseases occurs primarily in tropical and subtropical regions.
The website indicated that during this year, more than (10) million cases of “Dengue Fever” have been reported in North, Central, and South America and the Caribbean.
Local transmission of these diseases may occur when an infected traveler returns from outside the United States and is bitten by a mosquito and the virus or parasite is then transmitted to another person.
The website explained that mosquito bites can be prevented while traveling by using insect repellents and wearing protective clothing, in addition to receiving available vaccines against diseases transmitted by mosquitoes.
