UAE Provides Sudan with a New Grant

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced a significant humanitarian initiative for Sudan, following the signing of a cooperation agreement between the UAE Aid Agency and the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). Under the agreement, the UAE will provide a ($20 million) grant to support emergency response efforts and deliver food aid to populations affected by the conflict.

The aforementioned initiative is established in an effort to target the most vulnerable groups, including internally displaced persons (IDPs) within Sudan and host communities in neighboring countries, given the expanding humanitarian needs and heightened risks in the affected areas.

The agreement was signed by Rashid Salem Al Shamsi, the Executive Director of Logistics Support at the UAE Aid Agency, and Bashar Al Hammami, Head of the Partnerships Office in the UAE, representing the (WFP), in the presence of the UAE Aid Agency’s Chairman, Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri.

For his part, Al Ameri underlined the UAE’s commitment -in its global humanitarian role- to alleviating the suffering of those affected by the crisis in Sudan. He stressed that the support aims to include IDPs within the country, as well as those in need in Chad, South Sudan, Uganda, and Ethiopia.

The Executive Director of Logistics Support at the UAE Aid Agency reiterated that the witnessed circumstances necessitate strengthening joint international efforts to confront the threats of famine and rising humanitarian risks, moreover, he emphasized the importance of providing urgent and life-saving assistance at such a critical stage.
