The SPLM-RDC suspends participation in the Neon Process

The SPLM-Revolutionary Democratic Current (SPLM-RDC) announced the suspension of its participation in upcoming meetings of the Neon Process, overseen by the French organization Promediation, in protest against meetings held by the organization with groups affiliated with the National Congress Party (NCP) in Malaysia.

In a statement, the Movement shared that the decision to suspend participation came after its leadership office discussed a meeting held in Kuala Lumpur between (January 20th and the 22nd), with the participation of 15 parties from groups it describes as fronts for the National Congress Party. Furthermore, the Movement clarified that the same organization is managing the Neon Process, in which the Movement had previously participated.

The Movement added that it had received invitations to attend separate meetings with the Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasis) and the Forces of Freedom and Change-Democratic Bloc (FFC-DB), however, the (SPLM-RDC) decided to suspend its participation and called on the forces of revolution and change to take a similar stance, believing that the Malaysian meetings are a prelude to including the (NCP) in the Neon Process.

Hence, the Movement indicated that participating in this Process contradicts its declared positions rejecting the National Congress Party and its demand that it be designated a “Terrorist Organization.” It also viewed the meetings as a reward for the Islamist warlords and a violation of the Nairobi Declaration of Principles and the Quad statement issued on September 12th.

The statement added that the leadership office discussed the deteriorating humanitarian situation, including the decline in health and education services as well as the continued violence in large areas of Kordofan, in addition to the plight of refugees. The RDC went on to call for popular efforts both inside and outside Sudan to address the crisis.

Additionally, the meeting addressed the impact of regional divisions on political initiatives, noting that the conflict in areas bordering Sudan is directly affecting the course of the war and the country’s future and unity.

According to the statement, the leadership office assessed the existing alliances amongst the forces of revolution and change and concluded that they ought to be reformed, sharing that the Nairobi Declaration of Principles should be developed in an effort to build a broad anti-war political bloc.

The SPLM-Revolutionary Democratic Current concluded by referring to the discussion of attempts by what it described as “forces of war” to control resources, especially land, stressing the importance of exposing and confronting these practices, in addition to developing the documents of the Revolutionary Democratic Current in a manner that preserves its political identity -linked to the December revolution.
