Hamdok mocks Port Sudan’s decision to try him in absentia 

The former Sudanese Prime Minister and head of the Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Sumoud), Dr. AbdallaHamdok, considered the holding of his trial in absentia a “desperate attempt to evade the obligation to end the war,” stressing that his priority and that of his Alliance is to end the ongoing conflict in Sudan. 

Two days ago, the Anti-Terrorism Court in Port Sudan held the first session of a large-scale trial involving (201 defendants), amongst whom is the former Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok, as a significant number of defendants were tried in absentia. 

In an interview with (France 24), Hamdokexplained that the trial itself doesn’t constitute a major concern for him, indicating that the Alliance’s focus is pivoted towards alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people through the Alliance’s vision, which is based on three main pillars: A ceasefire, the provision of humanitarian aid, and advancing the political process. 

The Chairperson of (Sumoud) affirmed that the aforementioned vision represents the most suitable path to ending the Sudanese crisis, emphasizing that efforts ought to be directed towards stopping the war rather than being preoccupied with the trial proceedings.
