1,100 Civilians Killed by SAF in Alouba, Dbeiker, and Al-Baraka Villages in South Kordofan

In recent days, the region of Kordofan has unfortunately witnessed a tragic wave of bloody violence, amidst accusations leveled against the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and forces from the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) led by Minni Arcua Minnawi, along with allied militias and extremist groups, of committing widespread violations against civilians, the violations in question were described by political and human rights organizations as “massacres.”
According to local sources, the events began to take place during the period between (January 15th and 17th), when approximately 19 villages, most notably of which are “Alouba, Dbeiker, and Al-Baraka,” were subjected to coordinated attacks. The aforementioned attacks resulted in over (1,100 casualties), including deaths and disappearances, in addition to widespread looting of civilian property and large numbers of livestock.
In terms of political reactions, the Sudanese Congress Party (SCoP), in a statement, condemned what it described as the brutal crimes committed against unarmed civilians in the region of Kordofan, considering it a “policy of systematic killing and social cleansing, carried out with fully intentional awareness.” Furthermore, the (SCoP) held the military and political leadership fully responsible for these crimes.
For its part, the Sudan Founding Alliance (Tasis), in a statement issued by its official spokesperson, Dr. Alaa El-Din Nugud, described these incidents as a “massacre,” indicating that what took place, according to his remarks, comes within the framework of a “criminal approach and policy of ethnic cleansing pursued by the Muslim Brotherhood since it came to power in 1989.”
The Alliance accused the Muslim Brotherhood of allying itself -in the ongoing war- with Armed Movements and political figures who, according to the statement, had previously raised the banners of struggle and revolution, stressing that “the crimes of genocide and ethnic cleansing will not be subject to any statute of limitations, moreover, their perpetrators will surely be held legally accountable.”
The Sudanese Congress Party stated that these events claimed the lives of (220 civilians) and resulted in the disappearance of (912 people), in addition to the looting of private property. In which regard, (Tasis) indicated that the number of deaths and missing persons as a result of the aforementioned attacks was higher than these figures, for in addition, a widespread wave of looting and theft took place.
In the same context, the “Emergency Lawyers” human rights group stated that Security Authorities in areas under the control of the Sudanese Army continue to implement “systematic repressive policies” against innocent civilians, particularly anti-war activists. According to the human rights group, these policies include arbitrary arrests, enforced disappearances, and what it described as “sham” trials.
Meanwhile, the Sudanese Army has yet to comment on the accusations of massacres in Kordofan. Ibrahim Bakhit, a civil activist from the region, shared that what the region has witnessed in recent days constitutes “one of the worst episodes of violence that civilians have experienced since the outbreak of the war.”
In a statement to (Sky News Arabia), Bakhit added, “The villages attacked, were devoid of any military presence, moreover, the vast majority of the victims were women, children, and the elderly.” He noted that “Residents were taken by surprise by the violent attacks, which included killings, kidnappings, and widespread looting of property and livestock.”
He went on explain that “The climate of fear and panic has forced hundreds of families to flee, amidst extremely complex humanitarian conditions and severe shortages of food and medicine.” He warned of “An imminent humanitarian catastrophe if the local and international silence continued.”
Bakhit concluded his remarks by sharing that “The people of Kordofan demand protection be provided for civilians from the violations committed by the Sudanese Armed Forces and its allied militias, calling for an independent and transparent international investigation in an effort to hold those responsible for committing such heinous violations accountable.”
