Media Statement
December 9th, 2025
Earlier this Tuesday, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) that operates under the so-called Muslim Brotherhood launched a terrorist attack using a Turkish-made Akinci drone on the Heglig oil field with the intention of destroying it, just one day after our forces took control of this strategic site. The attack resulted in the killing and injury of dozens of engineers and workers at the field, several leaders of the native administration, as well as many soldiers from the protection and security forces of the Republic of South Sudan and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), in addition to the destruction of a number of vital facilities.
While we condemn this terrorist attack that targeted the Heglig oil field and claimed dozens of lives, we affirm that this act of aggression constitutes a blatant violation of international laws and norms, and a direct threat to security and stability in the region. We further emphasize that such actions reflects the deep frustration and internal collapse within the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood Army due to the daily defeats it continues to suffer at the hands of our forces.
Our forces warn of the grave consequences of tolerating such attacks, which pose direct risks to the security of this vital oil facility that represents an economic lifeline shared by the brotherly people of South Sudan, who rely heavily on the flow of their oil through Sudanese territory.
We call on the international community, foremost the United Nations and the Security Council, to fully assume their responsibilities in condemning this heinous attack and taking immediate action to put an end to these hostile acts, which represent a flagrant violation of the humanitarian truce declared by our side.
Our forces affirm their full capability to provide comprehensive protection for the field, ensure the safety of civilians, and secure all its facilities against any future attacks. We also warn the Muslim Brotherhood Army against persisting in these barbaric attacks and reaffirm our inherent right to respond and defend ourselves against any aggression targeting our forces or vital facilities.
Mercy and forgiveness be upon our righteous martyrs.
