Sumoud Condemns the Army’s Use of Chemical Weapons

The Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Sumoud) expressed deep concern in regards to American and international reports that provided information concerning the Sudanese Armed Forces’ use of internationally prohibited chemical weapons in the ongoing war across the country. The Alliance described this development as a serious crime and a violation of the International Humanitarian Law and Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).
Furthermore, the Alliance demanded an immediate halt to the use of such weapons and called for enabling the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) as well as relevant UN mechanisms to conduct an independent and transparent international investigation, in an effort to hold those responsible accountable. As (Sumoud) emphasized that the continuation of the war will only lead to further crimes and violations against innocent civilians, stressing the necessity of ending the war, as well as the importance of achieving a just and sustainable peace that provides redress for the victims and punishes the perpetrators.
