Sumoud Welcomes Trump’s Statements Regarding Intentions to Designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a Terrorist Organization

The Civil Democratic Alliance of Revolutionary Forces (Sumoud), welcomed the statements issued by the US President, Donald Trump in which he announced his intention to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a “Terrorist Organization.”

In a statement, the Alliance shared that this particular development is a step in the right direction, considering that the Brotherhood –according to the statement – played a major role in spreading extremist and hateful rhetoric in the region. The statement added that Sudan paid the “highest price” during their three decades of rule, which, according to the statement, bore witness to the division of the country, the outbreak of wars, and the perpetration of widespread violations against women and religious minorities, in addition to harboring extremist groups that contributed to destabilizing regional as well as international security.

Furthermore, Sumoud went on to affirm that achieving peace in Sudan requires holding the Muslim Brotherhood accountable for “igniting and prolonging the war” in addition to prosecuting those involved in committing violations. The Alliance noted that it had previously launched a campaign to designate the Brotherhood’s faction in Sudan, represented by the National Congress Party/Islamic Movement, as a terrorist group.

Additionally, the Civil Democratic Alliance highlighted the “opportunity to end the suffering of the Sudanese people caused by the ongoing war,” indicating that recent developments strengthen its resolve to continue putting forth diligent efforts to achieve peace, “the very peace called for by the glorious December Revolution.”
