Darfur Governor Welcomes UN Under-Secretary-General Tom Fletcher’s Visit And Affirms Facilitation of Humanitarian Work

The Governor of Darfur, Dr. El-Hadi Idris, welcomed the visit of Tom Fletcher, the UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, to the region. The Governor expressed his appreciation for international support and efforts to address the situation of civilians, moreover, he reiterated his government’s commitment to facilitating the efforts put forth by the humanitarian organizations and ensuring aid reaches all those affected.
The Governor emphasized his appreciation for this visit, which reflects the international community’s concern for the suffering of civilians and contributes to strengthening joint efforts in order to provide necessary assistance to those in need.
Dr. El-Hadi Idris went on to reaffirm his government’s commitment to facilitating the efforts of international organizations and humanitarian agencies, to providing all necessary guarantees to enable them to perform their duties and deliver aid effectively and transparently.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of humanitarian aid reaching all Sudanese affected by the war without exception, urging to double international and regional efforts so as to ensure the smooth flow of aid and enhance coordination amongst all relevant parties.
He affirmed the willingness of the government of Darfur’s Region to fully cooperate with the United Nations and humanitarian organizations to end the humanitarian suffering and achieve security and stability in the region.
