Following Accusations of SAF Violating the Ceasefire… UAE donates $100 million to support El Fasher.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced before the Security Council an additional donation of ($100 million) to support humanitarian operations in Darfur, mere hours after its Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Amb. Mohammed Abu Shihab, accused the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) of “destroying its own country” and “obstructing relief efforts.”
The announcement came during an emergency session of the Security Council, where Amb. Abu Shihab, in his urgent statement, directly accused the Sudanese Army of being responsible for “violating the humanitarian ceasefire and obstructing all relief efforts,” in one of the strongest statements since the outbreak of the ongoing conflict.
Furthermore, the Ambassador called on all warring parties in Sudan to “fully adhere to their obligations under International Humanitarian Law,” emphasizing the need to provide safe humanitarian corridors and ensure unimpeded access for aid to those in need, particularly the most vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly.
The UAE’s Permanent Representative went on to stress that “The continued obstruction of humanitarian aid is tantamount to a death sentence for thousands of civilians,” reiterating the importance of holding those responsible for committing such violations accountable.
The recently announced ($100 million) humanitarian aid package is earmarked to support life-saving operations in and around the city of El-Fasher, where the humanitarian crisis is worsening amidst widespread famine and escalating clashes.
The aforementioned donation comes as part of the UAE’s ongoing support for regional and international efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire and bring the warring parties back to the negotiating table, actively responding to the Sudanese people’s calls for peace and stability.
