Daglo: The liberation of El Fasher is a Strategic Shift in favor of Sudan’s Unity

And What’s coming will be far greater than the Framework Agreement
Today, Wednesday, the Chairman of the Presidential Council in the Government of Peace, and Commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Lt. Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, stated that the liberation of El-Fasher is a strategic shift in favor of Sudan’s unity, not its division, and added, “We will not relinquish an inch of Sudan’s territory.”
He declared his rejection of any discussions in regards to dividing Sudan, stating, “They will never see that happen.” He went on to explain, “This land was watered with blood, and everything has its price. Soon enough, Sudan will be safe and clean.”
In a speech – today- marking the liberation of El-Fasher, Daglo reiterated that the National Congress Party (NCP) ignited the April war in an effort to obstruct the Framework Agreement, however, that What’s coming will be far greater than the aforementioned Agreement. In a message addressed to the world, he explained that his forces are fighting terrorist groups supported by States that sponsor terrorism. Furthermore, the Chairman of the Peace Government’s Presidential Council stressed his unwavering stance on forming a single national army, fully subordinate to civilian authority and tasked with protecting the borders. He went on to reaffirm that the people are the guardians of the Constitution, and emphasizing his commitment to the establishment of a democratic civilian government, sharing, “The Sudan of the future is one of justice and true democracy, not a sham democracy.”
In addition, Daglo stressed the necessity of establishing a new army, stating, “There is no such thing as ‘reforming’ the old army… a new army ought to be established.” He emphasized the need to restructure all State institutions that had been hijacked as well.
The Rapid Support Forces Commander announced the formation of investigative committees following reports of violations that took place after the recent liberation of El-Fasher. According to his statements, the committees had already started performing their duties, and would promptly announce their findings to the public upon completion of the investigations. He warned against harming civilians and prisoners of war (POWs), considering civilians a line that shouldn’t be crossed, explaining, “We will not tolerate the killing of (POWs), and we will hold accountable anyone who harmed civilians or (POWs) during the operations to liberate El-Fasher.”
The head of the Presidential Council delivered an important message to his soldiers, directing them to protect civilians and (POWs). He stated, “My message to our valiant soldiers: Killing a POW is strictly forbidden. My forces will not protect a criminal or a thief, and anyone who violates the rights of others will be held accountable.” before adding, “Even the POWs who have committed grave atrocities, they ought to be tried according to the law… do not kill them.” He then ordered the immediate release of any civilian detained unlawfully.
The Peace Government’s Chairperson affirmed that his forces had turned the page on the war in El-Fasher, and that the focus at this juncture is on peace and reestablishment. He urged international, regional, and local humanitarian organizations to urgently provide relief to El-Fasher and its surrounding areas, announcing the immediate and complete freedom of movement for civilians in El-Fasher without hindrance, stating that military forces would withdraw from the city and that the Federal Police would then be responsible for its security. In addition, Daglo pledged to rebuild hospitals and restore water as well as electricity to El-Fasher. He explained that engineering teams had begun demining operations in preparation for the return of citizens to their homes within days, and he called upon the youth of El-Fasher to prepare for the city’s reconstruction.
In conclusion, the Chairman of the Presidential Council addressed the Sudanese people, saying, “Do not despair. Sudan will recover and return to being a homeland of justice and coexistence. This land was watered with blood, and everything has its price. Soon enough, Sudan will be safe and clean.”
