Journalist arrested in South Kordofan after publishing reports on local corruption

Recently, the de facto authorities in the Tartar area, located in the eastern mountains of South Kordofan state, arrested journalist Ibrahim Saleh. He was taken to the Tartar Police Station and placed in custody, pursuant to orders issued based on legal complaints filed against him by Al-Abbasiya Taqli Prosecution Office.
This development comes within the context of legal prosecutions related to Ibrahim Saleh’s journalistic activities, which included publishing reports on local corruption cases that sparked widespread controversy in the region’s community and administrative circles.
According to local sources, the arrest followed a series of journalistic articles published by Saleh, covering issues related to financial and administrative violations in local institutions, which prompted official authorities to initiate legal action against him.
Furthermore, sources told (Darfur 24) that a security force arrived at the journalist’s residence early Tuesday morning and carried out a raid, leading to his arrest and transfer to the Police Station. The reports filed against him were directly related to the content of his recent reports.
Preliminary information indicates that the reports filed with Al-Abbasiya TaqliProsecution Office are based on legal provisions related to publication, highlighting the challenges facing journalists in Sudan, particularly those who reside in areas experiencing political or administrative tensions.
This incident comes at a time of escalating local and international calls to protect press freedom and ensure that journalists are not subject to prosecution for their professional work, especially in light of the complex circumstances in the country.
