Abdul Bari: The Quad decisions and US Sanctions represent a pivotal shift in preventing the Islamists from reclaiming power

Former Sudanese Minister of Justice Nasreddin Abdul Bari welcomed the statement issued by the Quad (the United States, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt), along with the recent US sanctions against Al-Baraa Ibn Malik militia, describing the aforementioned steps as a “significant shift in the right direction” towards ending the war in Sudan and preventing the resurgence of the former Islamist regime.
In statements reported by (AlsudaniaNews), Abdul Bari considered these measures a clear message from Washington to the Islamists and their supporters, that the world will not accept the return of the old hegemonic regime that caused bloodshed and the displacement of millions, especially following the October 25 Coup that restored several figures of the former regime to State institutions.
Abdul Bari went on to emphasize that Sudan’s stability and integration into the international financial system depend on preventing the Islamists from regaining power. He called for this position to be adopted by the European Union, the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), and the Arab League, in an effort to form a strong international coalition that supports the democratic transition and the establishment of a new Sudanese State that is tolerant and open to relations with the rest of the world.
Abdel Bari’s statements reflect blatant and strong support for the international process aimed at ending the war, whilst emphasizing the necessity of excluding Islamist forces from any future political arrangements in order to ensure a genuine and sustainable democratic transition in Sudan.
